The chorus participates in almost all of the opera performances, musicals and concerts. Several months before the premiere it is time to start rehearsing.
Many performances are given in the language of the original work. So, apart from thorough musical studies, language lessons are also a natural part of the preparation.
"What is unique about the Göteborg Opera chorus is that it is an acting chorus. Not only are all the chorus members fantastic from a musical point of view but there is an actor inside each and every one of them,” says opera director Lise-Lotte Axelsson.
The chorus consists of 46 singers, all of whom have several years' training from music or opera conservatories behind them. It happens time and again that chorus singers perform soloist parts.
