Stina Ancker

Stina Ancker, director, started out in the 1980s as Assistant Director at the Helsingborg City Theatre and Folkoperan in Stockholm. She then started up the independent group Teater Mandrillen in which she directed a large number of productions, including plays by Thomas Bernhard. Her institutional début was at Riksteatern in 1991 with a Chekhov production. Since then she has worked at several regional theatres such as the Västmanlands Länsteater, at which in 1993 she staged a production of Ödön von Horvàth's Tales from the Vienna Woods. Her first opera was Zandonai's I cavalieri di Ekebù by Wermland Opera in 1994. After that there were a number of productions for stage, musical and radio drama. For radio, for example, Tony Kushner's Angels in America and Alice in Wonderland. In the year 2000, she staged Ivar Hallström's opera Hertig Magnus och Sjöjungfrun (Eng: Duke Magnus and the Mermaid) at Vadstena Academy. In 2002, she returned to Wermland Opera with an acclaimed production of Rossini's La Cenerentola. At the Stockholm City Theatre, she has directed productions such as Astrid Lindgren's Mio, Min Mio (Eng: Mio, My Son). In summer 2009, she directed the newly composed opera Näsflöjten (Eng: The Nose Flute) at Vadstena Academy. At Östgötateatern, she has staged several productions, including Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and the musical The Scarlet Pimpernel. At the Göteborg Opera, in 2005, Stina Ancker produced Mozart's Il Seraglio with a revival premiere in 2007 and the musical Mary Poppins in 2008.
