Sabine Hogrefe

German soprano Sabine Hogrefe was born in Lübeck, and began her studies at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck under the direction of Professor Karl-Heinz Pinhammer. From 1985–1991 she continued her studies at the Musikhochschule in Detmold.

She began her career at the Aaltotheater in Essen. From 1989–1991 she was a member of the Staatstheater Schwerin. 1994–1996 Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Munich and from 1997–2003 the Stadttheater Freiburg where she sang her first Wagner and Verdi roles. For her portrayal of the role Aida at the Bad Hersfeld Festival she was awarded the Opera Prize. Since 1997 she has been studying with Ada Zapperi.

From 2005–2007 she was a member of the Theater Bremen, here she sang Katja Kabanova, Leonora/Forza del Destino and her first Isolde, a role she repeated at the Staatsoper Hamburg, and in the Nantes – Angers production of Olivier Py. Sabine Hogrefe made her debut as Brünnhilde at the Landestheater Detmold in 2007 which she repeated with great success at the Theater Freiburg.

In 2008 she sang her first Turandot. In 2009 she made her debut at the Bayerischer Staatsoper as Gertrud/Hänsel und Gretel. In May 2010 she sang Brünnhilde/ Götterdämmerung at the Theater Freiburg.

In 2008 Sabine Hogrefe sang Isolde at the dress rehearsal at the Bayreuth Festival and was then engaged to cover Isolde and in 2009 - 2012 all Brünnhildes.

Season 2010/11 Sabine Hogrefe sang Madame Lidoine/Les Dialogues des Carmelites in a new production by Guy Joosten at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Busoni/Turandot at the Opera Dijon, Sieglinde and Brünnhilde at the Oper Leipzig and covered the Brünnhilde/Walküre at the MET. In 2012 she made her debut as Elektra at the Theater Regensburg. In 2013 Sabine Hogrefe returned to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein to sing Brünnhilde/Walküre. In June Isolde at the Chemnitz Theater. In October 2013 she sang Brünnhilde in the Ring at the Opera Dijon.

In November 2013 she returned to the MET to cover the Dyers Wife in the Frau ohne Schatten a role she sang at the Oper Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen and Saarbrücken in 2014. In 2015 she sang Brünnhilde/Siegfried at the Staatsoper Hannover.

In the season 2015/16 Sabine Hogrefe sang the role of Elektra in a new production in Detmold following this she returned to the Metropolitan Opera (MET) in New York to cover the role of Elektra. In 2016/17 she sang her first Ortrud/Lohengrin at the Oper Frankfurt.

In the season 2017/18 she will make her debut as Kostelnicka in Jenufa at the Opera Dijon. Then she will return to the Met again covering Elektra and Kundry/ Parsifal and after that she will make her debut at the Theatre de la Monnaie Bruxelles as Ortud.
