Pietro Rizzo has joined us from the Aalto Musiktheater in Essen where he has been the Principal Conductor for the last three years. Prior to this he was a conductor at the National Opera in Helsinki and has made guest appearances at the Rimsky Korsakov Opera in St Petersburg, the Vienna Volksoper, the Rossini Festival, and with the Lithuanian Symphony Orchestra and the Teatro Communale Orchestra in Bologna. Since 2002 he has been Visiting Professor at the Flanders Opera Studio in Gent, where he regularly holds master classes in Italian Opera. In the spring of 2007 he will make his debut at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin for performances of Cavalleria Rusticana.
Pietro Rizzo is 32 and was born in Rome. He started his musical career as a violinist in Italy and graduated with a Masters Degree in Music at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, USA in 1996. It was here that he first became interested in conducting and between 1997 and 2000 he studied conducting at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
