Peter Mattei, Baritone qualified at the Royal College of Music and the University College of Opera in Stockholm and made his debut in 1990 at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre as Nardo in Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera. In 2004 he was appointed Court Singer. In January 2009, he launched his own festival in Luleå with concerts and opera of the highest international standard. With his melodic baritone and magnetic stage presence, Peter Mattei has become established as one of the leading opera singers of his generation. He has appeared on stages throughout the world including the Metropolitan in New York, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, Covent Garden in London, Opéra National de Paris, the Berlin State Opera, the Lyric Opera in Chicago, Zurich Opera House and the festivals in Glyndebourne, Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg and Lucerne. His roles notably include the title roles in Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin and Billy Budd, Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, the Marquis of Posa in Don Carlos, Marcello in La Bohème, Jeletsky in The Queen of Spades and Wolfram in Tannhäuser. When Peter Mattei last made a guest appearance at the Göteborg Opera in the year 2000 he appeared in the lead role in Rossini's The Barber of Seville. In spring 2013, Peter Mattei added one further role to his repertoire when he played a sensational Amfortas in Parsifal at the Metropolitan in a performance that was also broadcast live at cinemas throughout the world.
