Patrick Kinmonth

Patrick Kinmonth is active across a broad front, as writer, architect, curator, director, creative director. He has designed around twenty opera performances, including La Traviata for the opening of La Fenice Opera House in Venice, three baroque operas at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre and Wagner's Ring for the opera houses in Cologne, Shanghai, Venice and Barcelona. He has been the recipient of a number of awards – in 2009 Premio Abbiato for the best production of Götterdämmerung at La Fenice, and in 2010 Le Grand Prix des Critiques Francophones for Elektra in Brussels. His previous dance creations include Sleeping Beauty for Scottish Ballet and Tombeaux for the Royal Ballet in London. As an architect, he designed the new Missoni store on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles and as a curator/designer he has been in charge of exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum, the Royal Academy of Art and the current photographic exhibition of Mario Testino's Todo o Nada at the Thyssen Museum, Barcelona. As opera director, Patrick Kinmonth is currently working on Samson and Delilah at Deutsche Oper in Berlin, and Franz Schrecker's Die Gezeichneten in Cologne (where he has also directed Madame Butterfly), and St Matthew Passion in London. Also current is his revival premiere of his design of Handel's oratorium, Semele, conducted by William Christie and with Cecilia Bartoli singing the lead role.
