Nikolai Schukoff

The Austrian tenor, born in Graz, is one of the promising young voices on the international opera and concert circuit. After his studies at the Mozarteum Salzburg he had his successful debut in 1996 as Alfredo in La Traviata in Gelsenkirchen (Germany). In his first years he was a fix member of opera companies in Germany and guested in international theaters like Salzburg, Opéra de Lyon, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opera Comique, Scottish Opera, Sydney Opera and others where he sang the lyric tenor repertoire.
The international break-through came with more dramatic roles such as Siegmund in a concert version of Die Walküre in Berlin in 2006 and Parsifal at the Staatsoper München in 2007. Important appearences followed as Sergeij in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and Max in Der Freschütz in Geneva, Don José in Carmen and Pollione in Norma at Théâtre du Châtelet, Parsifal, Dionisos in The Bassarids and Erik in The Flying Dutchman at the Staatsoper München, Don José in Carmen at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, at the Festival Baden-Baden, at the Staatsoper Hamburg and at the Zurich Opera, Parsifal in Dresden, Santiago de Compostela, Paris, Budapest and Lyon, Jim Mahoney in Mahagonny in Toulouse, Loge in Das Rheingold in Montreal, Quint/Prologue in Turn of the Screw in Vienna, Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos in Valencia and Florestan in Fidelio at the Prague Spring Festival. After the production of Rusalka he will sing Don José in Carmen at the Bastille in Paris in December 2012 and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in February 2013.
