Nicola Raab, director, made her first special appearance at The Göteborg Opera in 2010 as the director of Thaïs, which was later performed on other stages, including Palau des Arts in Valencia, with Plácido Domingo in the role of Athanaël and Malin Byström in the title role. In 2008, Nicola Raab directed the contemporary, first fully theatrical rendition of A Flowering Tree in USA at the Chicago Opera Theater. Nicola Raab has staged productions such as Soldier and Dancer by Martinû at Prague State Opera, Der Kuss/The Kiss by Smetana with the Opera Theatre Company in Dublin, world-premiere Zora D. with IOCN Amsterdam, Kammeroper Wien and BEMUS Belgrade, as well as Moskau, Moskau by Shostakovich at Kammeroper Wien. Numerous other directing engagements include Marathonfamily by Isidora Zebeljan at the Bregenz Festival and Neue Oper Wien, Béatrice et Bénédict by Berlioz at the Chicago Opera Theater, Don Chisciotte in Sierra Morena by Francesco Conti at the Musikwerkstatt Wien, Owen Wingrave for Wiener Kammeroper as well as Parsifal at the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn in connection with its European Capital of Culture project. Most recent productions include a recently composed opera by Ľubica Čekovská, Dorian Gray, in Bratislava, Otello at Det Kongelige Teater, Tristan und Isolde at Novaya Opera in Moscow, The Cunning Little Vixen in St. Gallen as well as Thaïs at Los Angeles Opera. Future plans include Written on Skin for St. Gallen, Boris Godunow for Savonlinna Opera Festival and Lohengrin for The Royal Danish Theatre.
