Michael Schmidberger, base (Cardinal de Brogni) – after studies at the University of Gothenburg School of Theatre and Opera, he was employed at the opera house in Dortmund, Germany between 1998-2000. Since then, he has performed at the Royal Opera, The Göteborg Opera, Folkoperan, the Wermland Opera, Vadstena Academy, Södertaljeoperan and Opera på Skäret, among others.
The roles he has sung include Ramfis and the King in Aida, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Zaccaria in Nabucco, Oroveso in Norma, Padre Guardiano in La forza del destino, Alvise Badoero in La Gioconda, Stromminger / Pedone in La Wally and Hunding in Die Walküre. In summer 2013 he sang the part of Fasolt in the Dalhalla production of Das Rheingold. Roles he has sung at the Royal Opera include Oroveso in Norma, Colline in La Bohème, Dr. Grenvil in La Traviata, the Old Hebrew in Samson and Delilah, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Police Inspector in Der Rosenkavalier, Jorg in Stiffelio, most recently Zuniga in Carmen, Timur in Turandot and Titurel in Parsifal.
He has also been a concert soloist with the Finnish Radio Chamber Choir, at the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall in 2008 and 2009 and at the Nobel Banquet 2004. At The Göteborg Opera, Michael Schmidberger has sung the King in Aida, Alindoro in Cenerentola, Palémon in Massenet's Thaïs, Hans Schwarz in The Mastersingers of Nuremberg and Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte.
