Mats Persson
Mats Persson is educated at Musikhögskolan in Malmö and at Teater- och Operahögskolan in Gothenburg. He came to Stora Teatern in 1992 and did roles such as Perchik in Fiddler on the Roof, Zaretsky and Prince Gremin in Eugen Onegin, Monterone in Rigoletto and Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte. His roles at the Göteborg Opera include Mimaroben in Aniara, Soloist in Mahler's Eight Symphony, Bonzen in Madama Butterfly, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Jochanaan in Salome, Cesare Angelotti in Tosca, Lord Sidney in Il Viaggio a Reims, Lindorf/Coppelius/Dr Miracle/Dapertutto in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Jones in The Bomb Party, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Orest in Elektra, Wotan in Der Niebelungen Ring, a musical/scenic compact version of Wagner's work, Zuniga and Escamillo in Carmen, Härold in Lohengrin, Banco in Macbeth², Amonasro in Aida, Lescaut in Manon Lescaut, Herr von Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier and Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde.
The summer of 1996 Mats sang the title role in Tokfursten in Vadstena, which was also performed in Stockholm when it was Cultural Capital of the Year. He is a frequent and popular concert singer and can be heard on several CD recordings.
