Markus Schwartz

Markus Schwartz trained at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and at the University College of Opera in Stockholm. At The Göteborg Opera his performances have included Masetto and Leporello in Don Giovanni, Don Magnifico in Cinderella, The Vagabond Varlaam in Boris Godunov, Waltner/Chinese/Crazy professor in K. Beskrivning av en kamp (Description of a Struggle), Count Lamoral in Arabella, Baron Douphol in La Traviata, 2nd Grail Knight in Parsifal, the leading role in The Marriage of Figaro, The Doctor in Macbeth, Curius in Julius Caesar and Colline in La Bohème.

At the European Championship Ceremony in Gothenburg in the summer in 2006 he sang a shorter version of The Magic Flute on Götaplatsen. He has also sung Papageno at the opera in Björneborg, Rambaldo in Puccini’s La Rondine at Finland’s National Opera, the title role in The Marriage of Figaro in Jyväksylä, Narbanor in Zoroastre at Drottningholm Castle Theatre and the same role in Amsterdam at Holland Festival.

Markus Schwartz is a concert soloist in great demand and has sung with orchestras such as The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg's and Malmö's Symphony Orchestras and he has also given concerts in Sweden, Finland and France. In the summer in 2007 he sang Figaro with the Classical Opera Company in Ascoli Picena in Italy, at the Marlow Theatre in Canterbury, Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London and Buxton Festival. In the summer of 2009 he played the part of Mustafà in The Italian Girl in Algiers at Läckö Castle Opera.
