Maria Streijffert

Maria Streijffert trained at the Malmö Academy of Music and the University College of Opera in Stockholm. Her operatic roles include Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Malmö Opera and Music Theatre, Penelope in The Return of Ulysses to His Homeland at the Swedish Baroque Festival in Malmö, Arnalta in The Coronation of Poppaea with Stephen Stubbs, Erin Headly and Ensemble Tragicomedia in Malmö and Theodorine in Offenbach's The Island of Tulipatan at NorrlandsOperan. She has also sung Sonjetka in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at Wermland Opera, Fernando in Francesco Conti's Don Chisciotte in Sierra Morena under the direction of René Jacobs at Baroque festivals in Innsbruck and Beaune, Philoktet in Handel's Orest at Komische Oper in Berlin under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock and Mistress Quickly in Falstaff, Delilah in Samson and Delilah and Erda in Siegfried at the Royal Swedish Opera.

Recent seasons have included Erda and Rossweisse in Nibelungen's Ring at Seattle Opera, Erda in Das Rheingold and Siegfried, Schwertleite in The Valkyrie, as well as 1st Norn in Götterdämmerung in Wermland Opera's praised Nibelungen's Ring, as well as Ecuba in Cavalli's La Didone with Les Arts Florissants and William Christie in Caen, Paris and Luxembourg. During autumn 2013 Maria Streijffert sung Storge in a theatrical version of Handel's Jephtha in Potsdam.

Maria Streijffert has performed as a concert singer with several of the leading symphony orchestras in Scandinavia. She has sung Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, both under the direction of Alan Gilbert in Stockholm and Lawrence Renes in Stockholm and Paris. She has sung Mendelssohn's Elias with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, and Mahler's Symphony no. 8 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Sakari Oramo. Other concert engagements have included Bach's Christmas Oratorio with Ålborg Symphony Orchestra, Messia with Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn's Elias with South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, Mozart's Requiem with Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra and Rossini's Messe Solenne with Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. December 2013 included Rossweisse in concert performances of The Valkyrie with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Harding.
