Lars-Åke Thessman

Lars-Åke Thessman, scenography works with both theatre and opera productions at the majority of the larger venues in Sweden.

At The Göteborg Opera he has done the scenography for a number of productions such as The Flying Dutchman, The Merry Widow, The Journey to Reims, Wozzeck, K. Beschreibung eines kampfes, La Traviata, and Macbeth (the last five of which were directed by David Radok). For the same venue he has also done the scenography for Elektra, The Knight of the Rose, The Woman Without a Shadow, Parsifal, Lulu, and Goya. At the Royal Opera in Stockholm his scenographic exploits include The Tales of Hoffmann, Boris Godunov, Aida, Orlando, and Bathsheba.

Thessman has exhibited his drafts and models at various venues, including the Göteborg City Museum and the Scenography Quadrennial in Prague. Along with Karin Erskine he was awarded the gold medal in 2003 at the latter for Scenography/Costume & Design for Elektra. Recent productions include Lady Macbeth of the Mtensk District at Värmlandsoperan (The Värmland Opera House) and the Woman Without a Shadow at The Göteborg Opera, for which he was awarded the Opera Award by Svenska Dagbladet in 2005. Other productions include La Traviata and The Rake’s Progress at Det Kongelige Teater/Operaen (The Royal Danish Theatre) in Copenhagen and Strindberg’s The Great Highway at the Klara Stage of Stockholms Stadsteater (Stockholm City Theatre). Lars-Åke Thessman has also been awarded the Tidskriften Opera award in 2007.
