Katarina Karnéus

Katarina Karnéus, mezzo-soprano, was born in Stockholm and educated in London. She has sung previously at The Göteborg Opera in the roles of Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice, and has recently performed in The Göteborg Opera concert Att leva, dö och överleva (literally To live, die and survive). Katarina Karnéus performs internationally on the some of the world's most renowned opera and concert stages. She made her début in 1999 at Metropolitan in New York as Varvara in Katja Kabanova, and has also performed as Olga in Eugen Onegin, Siebel in Faust and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. Some of her diverse roles in other opera houses include Annio in La clemenza di Tito, Countess Geschwitz in Lulu, the titular roles in Carmen and Alceste, Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda, Ruggiero in Alcina and the titular role in Händel's Serse at The Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. Karnéus has also appeared in several prestigious festivals and at royal galas in Sweden and the UK. She has performed on recordings of songs and orchestral songs for Hyperion, EMI and BIS, and on the Opus Arte DVD recording of Tristan und Isolde at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera as Brangäne. In 2010 she was won two Grammy awards for Mahler's eighth symphony conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas with The San Francisco Orchestra. The 2012-2013 season saw the commencement of the five-year period during which Katarina Karnéus will be engaged by The Göteborg Opera..
