Karin Erskine

Karin Erskine has worked since 1981 as a freelance at a variety of theatres and opera houses both in Sweden and abroad.

At The Göteborg Opera, she has designed costumes for a number of opera performances, including The Flying Dutchman, The Merry Widow, Elektra, Dialogues des carmélites, Der Rosenkavalier, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Parsifal, The Rake's Progress (also in Copenhagen) and Alcina.

At Stora Teatern / The Göteborg Opera, she created the costumes for most of Ulf Gadd's and Sven-Erik Goude's dance theatre works, including Der Ring des Nibelungen, Tango Buenos Aires 1907, Bhima and The Rite of Spring.

International productions include La damnation de Faust, directed by Robert Lepage, which was performed in Japan, at the Bastille Opera in Paris and the Metropolitan in New York. Under David Radok's direction, she was responsible for the costumes for Bathsheba at the Royal Swedish Opera, and The Rake's Progress at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.

At the Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in Prague in 2003, Karin Erskine, along with Lars-Åke Thessman, received the gold medal for costume design and set design for The Göteborg Opera production of Elektra. She has also received an Oscar nomination for the costumes in Ingmar Bergman's film The Magic Flute. Her recent projects include the costumes for The Tales of Hoffmann at the Royal Danish Theatre and Don Giovanni at Drottningholms Slottsteater.
