Joa Helgesson, baritone trained at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and at the Shanghai Theatre Academy (acting). After the University College of Opera, he was engaged at the National Opera Studio in London 2009/2010 and, during the period 2010/2012, he was engaged at the International Opera Studio IOS/Zurich Opera House.
His roles include Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Shaunard, Bill in Mahagonny (Landetheater Schleswig-Holstein), Demetrius, Dandini, Papageno, Francesco in Masnadieri (Zurich Opera House/IOS), Arsamene in Xerxes (The Royal Swedish Opera, The Drottningholm Palace Theatre), Emperor of China in The Nightingale (Chamber Orchestra of Konstanz), Tarquinius, Silvio in Pagliacci, Pelléas (NOS-National Opera Studio), Belcore (Chamber Orchestra Rheinsberg Castle), Alfio (Ystad Opera), Samurai/Son in Four Nights of Dream (Vadstena Academy), Don Giovanni (SVT), Marcello (University College of Opera in Stockholm) and the leading role in Joel (Alandica, Mariehamn). He has sung in productions with internationally renowned conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Zubin Mehta, Nello Santi, Ingo Metzmacher, Steuart Bedford and Zsolt Hamar, and under directors such as Peter Konwitschny, Peter Stein, Mats Ek, Sven-Eric Bechtolf, Jens-Daniel Herzog, John Copley and Patrice Caurier/Moshe Leiser. Helgesson has been the recipient of a number of scholarships, from institutions such as the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, Friends of Vadstena Academy and Friends of Drottningholm Palace Theatre.
