Jim De Block
Jim De Block, dancer from Belguim, joined GöteborgsOperans Danskompani in 2014. He began his career in Les Ballets des Jeunes d'Europe. Following this he joined the Royal Ballet of Flanders where he worked together with William Forsythe, Jiri Kylián, Jorma Elo, Jacopo Godani, Nicolo Fonte, Marcia Haydee, Christian Spuck, David Dawson, Douglas Lee, Lionel Hoche, among others.
In 2011 he started freelancing as a dancer, choreographer and teacher. Since then, he worked with Fernando Magadan, James O'Hara and Maurice Causey and others, performing in various projects all over Europe.
In 2013 he was invited as a Guest Artist by the Ballet de l'Opera de Lyon to perform One Flat Thing Reproduced by William Forsythe and be part of Lucy Guerin's creation Black Box.
Most recently he worked with Stijn Celis on his full length world premiere of Sleeping Beauty for Tanz Luzerner Theater, Switzerland in which he danced the role of Prince Desiré.
As a choreographer, Jim has created Revolution Askew (2007), Self;Devoured (2008), Time's Fool (2009) and Knee Deep Sleep (2011).
Alongside his dancing, Jim also works as a professional photographer, is trained in martial arts and guests regularly as a teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
