Ingun Bjørnsgaard

Ingun Bjørnsgaard was educated at the National Academy of the Arts and the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. In 1992 she started her own dance company, the Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt. The company tours internationally and has produced more than 20 full-length performances.

Ingun Bjørnsgaard has also worked as a guest choreographer for companies such as the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm, Skånes Dansteater in Malmö, Carte Blanche in Bergen, The National Theatre, Oslo, Tanztheater Bremen, Tanzcompagnie Oldenburg and the Norwegian National Ballet. In April 2008, for the opening of the new Opera House in Oslo, she was invited to choreograph a full-length work for the Norwegian National Ballet, titled A Modern Place, with music by composers Rolf Wallin and Henrik Hellstenius.

Bjørnsgaard´s works capture the modern individual in the passage between the hesitant and introverted and the unrestrained and spectacular. She has received several awards for her work, including first prize at the Nordic Choreographer Competition for her Jomfruer i norsk landskap. She is the only artist to have received the Norwegian Critic´s Association Award twice, for Sleeping Beauty (1995) and Largo (2010). In 2013 she was commissioned to create a new piece, Hedda, for Ballet-de-Lorraine in Nancy, France.
