Hans Josefsson, was hired in 1971, immediately after he graduated from the University College of Opera in Gothenburg, at Stora Teatern, where he played a very large number of principal roles within opera, musicals and operetta. On moving to the Göteborg Opera in 1994, he continued his career in roles such as Chefone in Aniara, Frank in Die Fledermaus, Daland in The Flying Dutchman, the Mayor in Jenufa, Scarpia in Tosca, Crespel in The Adventures of Hoffmann, Balstrode in Peter Grimes, Landgrave Hermann in Tannhäuser, Dr Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro, Innkeeper Thénardier in Les Misérables and Old Deuteronomy in Cats. He has also been behind the concept, script, direction of Göteborg Opera's Christmas event, Jultrad-i-ton, ever since it started in 1995. Hans Josefsson became famous throughout the Nordic region for his interpretation of the role of Ernst Rolf in the TV series, Lyckeland. In addition, he has had engagements at Oscars Theatre in Stockholm, Malmö Opera, The Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen, Helsinki Opera and has appeared on a number of opera stages in Italy. Hans Josefsson has made many recordings, has also been a programme host on SVT and Artistic Director of Himlaspelet (the Heavenly Play) in Leksand. In 2009, he played Änkeman Jarl in the Riksteatern/Nöjeshunden production.
