After studies at the Tamalpa Institute in San Francisco, USA and the program of choreography at the University of Dance in Stockholm 1995-1998 Gunilla Heilborn has created performances and films with great success. Her unique way of combining text, motion, video and images, always spiced with humor, has given her a position as one of Sweden’s most interesting performance and film artists.
Her piece Potato Country premiered at Dansens Hus in Stockholm, Sweden in 2007. It was restaged twice in Stockholm and invited and performed at venues in Belarus, Finland, Germany, Scotland, Austria and the United States. The Five Year Plan (2009), created for her own ensemble, opened at NorrlandsOperan in Umeå, Sweden, and was performed at the c/o Stockholm City Theatre stage.
The critically acclaimed Alaska was Gunilla Heilborn’s first piece for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani (former known as The Göteborg Ballet). The film This is Alaska (originally created for Alaska) won the award for Best Short Film at the Uppsala International Short Film Festival 2009 and Best International Short Fiction Film at Expresión en Cortó, Mexico in 2010.
