Graham Vick is an internationally acclaimed director, to the Göteborg audience known for the production of Lady Macbeth of Mzensk at GöteborgsOperan 2012. From 1994 to 2000 he was director of productions for Glyndebourne Opera. He founded the Birmingham Opera Company in 1987 and continues to work as Artistic Director for the company. His many productions for the company include La traviata (co-production with Arena di Verona), Ariadne Sells Out, Ulysses Comes Home, Fidelio, Curlew River (also BBC Proms), Idomeneo, Otello (broadcast on BBC Two), Tippett’s The Ice Break, Khovanskygate: a National Enquiry and the world premieres of Dove’s Life is a Dream and Stockhausen’s Mittwoch aus Licht (staged as part of the London 2012 Festival and Cultural Olympiad). In 2015 he directed the world premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas’s Morgen und Abend for The Royal Opera where he has directed several other operas. At La Scala he has directed Macbeth and Fanciulla del West.
Vick’s many other productions include Der Ring des Nibelungen (Lisbon and Palermo), Tristan und Isolde (Deutsche Oper Berlin), Boris Godunov, War and Peace and The Makropulos Affair (Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg), Lulu and Eugene Onegin (Glyndebourne Festival), Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Metropolitan Opera, New York and Göteborg Opera), Parsifal and Le Roi Arthus (Paris Opéra).
