The ballet is comprised of about 40 dancers from 17 countries and is currently the largest modern dance company in the Nordic countries.

In the last decade the ensemble has gone from being a classical ballet company to a purely modern dance company. The ballet director Johannes Öhman mostly works with choreographers from the Nordic countries who create productions directly for the Göteborg Opera.
"Rehearsal work starts about eight weeks before the premiere. It is not unusual for a dancer to be working on several performances at the same time and therefore with different styles and choreographers at once," he says.
Over and above the performances that are given on the Main and Small Stages, the Göteborg Ballet also give national and international guest performances. This season the tours will go, for example, to Stockholm, Germany, Luxembourg and Italy.
Read an interview with Johannes Öhman in which he tells us more about his thoughts on modern dance.
