Season 2017/2018

Season 2017/2018

Diversity and dynamics

Dance is an art form with multiple impressions – it moves, it touches, it reflects, it provokes. It is relevant and innovative, it touches your inner sentiments and enriches your imagination. Choreographers and artists are driven by a continuous quest for new possibilities: new themes, new formats, new languages of movement.

The 2017/2018 dance season will be a physical, diverse and dynamic year including works by well-established choreographers and living legends, as well as introducing new voices, the unknown and exciting – the element of surprise.

GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is proud to present new commissioned works by Sharon Eyal, Roy Assaf, Sang Jijia and Damien Jalet. We are also honoured to continue our working relationship with the legendary choreographer Ohad Naharin, presenting a new version of his piece Decadance especially created for our Company with the title Decadance Gothenburg.

The company will continue to increase its international visibility and faultless reputation by performing at highly renowned venues and festivals, such as Sadler’s Wells in London and Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris. The company will open prestigious dance festivals in Germany and Switzerland, followed by multiple performances in cities all over Europe.

I am eager and enthusiastic to initiate collaboration with other art forms and am therefore thrilled to announce the collaboration with the Göteborg Opera’s extremely vibrant orchestra for the first programme of the season. Together we will present one of the most controversial and magnificent musical masterpieces of the twentieth century, Stravinsky’s Le sacre de printemps.

We continue to nurture and embrace “in house” talents by creating a platform for emerging choreographers, with a new and flourishing collaboration between The Royal Swedish Ballet, Skånes Dansteater and GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. A national co-production where three choreographers, one from each company, are selected to create works for each other's artists. The manifestations of this collaboration will be performed and presented in the three main cities of Sweden, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is one of the most prestigious contemporary dance companies in Europe, and the biggest in the Nordic region. The company attracts highly acclaimed choreographers and dancers from all over the world. I have come to recognise the extraordinary talents of the company dancers, as both individual artists and a collective. Their force is energetic and dynamic, with an ever-present and strong sense of diversity and individuality.
