European Opera Days

11-12 May


During the European Opera Days (11-12 May), 107 opera houses and companies in 24 countries will be holding "open house".


At The Göteborg Opera, we invite you to one programme for adults (Saturday) and one for children (Sunday). Activities will include the opportunity to find out which vocal range you belong to, take part in an opera sing-a-long, take a basic course in opera and take a tour behind the scenes.

The Göteborg Opera programme:

Saturday 11 May - for adults


11.00 am The house opens.

11.30 am - 16.00 The Göteborg Opera Café is open.

12.00 noon The box office opens.

11.30 am - 12.15 pm Seminar: Curious but don't know much? Opera for dummies. An introduction to the wonderful world of opera. With Göran Gademan (dramaturgist). NB: Send an email to marknad@opera.se to enrol by 10 May, entering "Seminar" in the subject line. A limited number of places will be available.

12.00 noon - 1.30 pm Bass or soprano? Sing aloud for Lisa Fröberg (répétiteur) and soloist Marco Stella (baritone) in the foyer and find out which vocal range you belong to. Open to anyone over 18. A limited number of places will be available.

1.30 pm - 2.15 pm Opera sing-a-long in the foyer with répétiteur Lisa Fröberg, baritone Marco Stella, soprano Carolina Sandgren and Anders Ottosson (Rehearsals Manager).

2.30 pm Guided tours, starting out from the box office. A limited number of places will be available.

Ordinary programme:
5.00 pm Introduction to the evening's performance. The Small Stage.
6.00 pm Evening performance: The Barber of Seville by Rossini. The Main Stage.

Free admission to all day-time activities.
The Göteborg Opera Bar and Restaurant open at 4 pm.

Sunday 12 May - for children


11.00 am The house opens.

11.30 am - 4.00pm The Göteborg Opera Café is open.

12.00 noon The box office opens.

11.30 am - 12.00 noon Discover the exciting world of opera! Introduction for children between the ages of 9 and 12. With Göran Gademan (dramaturgist) and Anders Ottosson (Rehearsals Manager). NB: Send an email to marknad@opera.se to enrol by 10 May, entering "Children's Seminar" in the subject line. A limited number of places will be available. The Small Stage.

12.00 noon - 4.00 pm Dress up! Children will be able to try on stage costumes, wigs and hats in the foyer. Feel free!

2.30 pm Guided tours, starting out from the box office. A limited number of tickets will be available.

Ordinary programme:
5.00 pm Introduction to the evening's performance. The Small Stage.
6.00 pm Evening performance: Simon Boccanegra by Verdi. The Main Stage.

Free admission to all day-time activities.
