Concert. Start 2013 with us! Grand concert and ball on the Main Stage!

We wish you a warm welcome to The Göteborg Opera ball evening! Last season, a throng of around a thousand found their way to this enormously popular event that includes everything you could wish for in a real winter festival. The welcome drink in the foyer is followed by a magnificent concert featuring invited star vocalists and The Göteborg Opera Orchestra in party mood.
In the interval, the Main Stage is transformed into a glittering ballroom, ready for the intoxicating dancing. The ball is opened by The Göteborg Opera’s Viennese orchestra, followed by a big band and vocalist.
Between dances, you can wander round and rejoice at the people in their party attire, wearing everything from the finest evening gowns to the coolest miniskirts, caftans, folk costumes or sophisticated vintage party dresses, kilts or dark lounge suits.
You can pre-book a three-course meal in The Opera Bar and The Göteborg Opera Restaurant. In our cafés, which like the Restaurant are open all evening, you can buy everything from fine drinks to snack meals, as well as coffee and pastries.
Concert Program
Two shining stars will be enchanting us during the evening's introductory Twelfth Night Concert. Soprano Carolina Sandgren, acclaimed soloist at The Göteborg Opera, seen most recently in Lady Macbeth from Mzensk and The Magic Flute and during the autumn in Pearls from the Stage on its regional tour. She is accompanied by Philip Jalmelid, currently playing the Russian Anatoly in Chess in Swedish – a role for which he has been given a brilliant reception by critics and audiences alike. The Göteborg Opera Orchestra will play under the direction of Nick Davies, who has most recently been guest conductor in West Side Story, during the 2011/2012 season.
