Sweeney Todd

The multiple prize winning musical Sweeney Todd has been one of Stephen Sondheim’s most successful works since it made its Broadway debut in 1979. Audiences across the world remain captivated by the morbid story of the barber Sweeney Todd, who cuts the throats of his customers then lets his companion Mrs Lovett bake them in her meat pies – which, incidentally, prove to be a big hit with her customers! The grotesquely comical events are carried by some of Sondheim’s most fantastic music including songs such as “The worst pies of London” and “Not while I’m around”.

We are proud to present a semi-staged performance in English with artists directly from the West End. The director, Staffan Aspegren, has a special affinity for Sondheim’s work and is a well known figure to the audience after directing several operas and musicals for The Göteborg Opera.
