At the end of August, the Göteborg Opera opens the 2005/2006 season on the Main Stage with two late summer concerts. It will be two exciting nights in the name of opera and world music respectively.
The first concert takes place Sunday 21 August and is a tribute to Jussi Björling - one of the greatest tenors the world has ever seen. Two of Sweden's contemporary opera stars, tenor Tito Beltrán and soprano Ann-Marie Backlund, together with the Göteborg Opera Orchestra, performs a Jussi Björling programme in the Main Stage. This concert is conducted by the Göteborg Opera's resigning Artistic Director, Kjell Ingebretsen.
Sunday 28 August there will be an exciting meeting between the renowned world music band Ale Möller Band and the Göteborg Opera Orchestra. Ale Möller has been one of the leading figures within Swedish folk music and world music for the last decades and won a Grammy with his Ale Möller Band in 2004. The band consists of a motley crew of musicians with roots in different musical cultures, who play, among others, mandola, horn, violin and percussion. Together with conductor Hans Ek, Ale Möller has created a folk music suit for symphonic orchestras and this time it is the celebrated Göteborg Opera Orchestra who joins him on stage. Conductor Hans Ek will also direct the Cole Porter musical Kiss Me Kate! at the Göteborg Opera this autumn.
