After Javier de Frutos' beautiful ballet J. Edna and Mother Tolson during the autumn 2004, the Göteborg Ballet has again managed to engage this trend setting choreographer to create a new work, By the Heavenly Grass, based on the ethereal and magical spirit of beauty. This time he has chosen music by Heitor Villa-Lobos and once again he will work with a large ensemble.
The choreographer himself has said “there is no art form that better than dance depicts ambiguity. The physical and the sublime exists simultaneously. It is pure poetry”.

Jirí Kylián’s Bella Figura is a beautiful ballet. It has been called one of the most exquisite ballets in the last 25 years, and it is a great joy and pleasure for the Göteborg Opera to be able to present this ballet. Jirí Kylián is one of the world’s most successful and renowned choreographers, who for 25 years was the artistic director for Netherlands Dance Theater, a company at the centre of the development of modern dance. Two of his other works, Sechs Tänze and Petite Mort, are already on our repertoire and will be seen later this season.
