Twelve of Sweden’s most promising young dancers. Four choreographers from Gothenburg’s professional world of dance
Together they create Prolog, a performance in four parts inspired by Nordic literature. Among the sources of inspiration are the Icelandic Nobel laureate Halldór Laxness and our national Swedish poet Gustaf Fröding.
Three of the choreographers are dancers at the Göteborg Ballet: Israel Aloni, Hlín Diego Hjalmarsdóttir and Toby Kassell. The fourth choreographer, Peter Svenzon, is artistic leader for the dance group Art Of Spectra which is based in Gothenburg.
The twelve dancers are selected from the final year students at the Ballet Academies in Gothenburg and Stockholm, the University College of Dance and the Royal Swedish School of Ballet.
Under the name of NUDANS they have formed a seasonally-based dance company that will perform Prolog on the Small Stage of the Göteborg Opera on two occasions in June 2009. During the autumn the production will be on tour in West Götaland. Take the opportunity to see today the stars of tomorrow!
NUDANS is a seasonally-based dance company consisting of a selection of final year students from Sweden’s professional ballet schools.
NUDANS has been created to help and promote recently graduated dancers, an initiative taken by the Göteborg Ballet.
The primary goal of NUDANS is to help the final year students to take their first steps into the professional world, to give them a chance to experience how a professional dance company works, and to supervise them while they are at the Göteborg Opera.
This spring of 2009 twelve students have been invited to participate in NUDANS and to perform in Prolog, which has been created exclusively for them. During a period of four weeks these students will take part in the daily training with the Göteborg Ballet, watch rehearsals and work with Prolog.
The students will be an important part of the creative process for the four choreographers, Israel Aloni, Hlín Diego Hjálmarsdóttir, Toby Kassell and Peter Svenzon. Each of these will create a work for Prolog which will have its world premiere on the Small Stage of the Göteborg Opera on 5 June and one more performance will be given on 6 June 2009. The production will also tour West Götaland during the coming autumn.
