La Forza del Destino
Opera by Giuseppe Verdi.
La Forza del Destino is the Göteborg Opera's 5th Verdi production, after La traviata, Aida and Gustaf III / Un Ballo in Maschera, and it is the first time it is staged in Gothenburg.
Knut Hendriksen, who produced Aida, returns as director. His goal is to place the drama in historical times, and base it on the Catholic honour murder as opposed to the much discussed Islamic honour murder.
Leonora’s lover, Don Alvaro, shoots her father Il Marchese by mistake. Her brother,
Don Carlo, searches for his father’s killer and takes out revenge on his sister.
