This piece of newly composed musical theatre, going by the working title Möten [Eng: Encounters], is included in The Göteborg Opera By the Young for the Young project, in which children and teenagers within various age-groups are involved in a production for our smaller stages. In previous seasons, we have staged new works written by and for children and teenagers of various ages with themes such as courage, love and bullying.
This autumn's production involves pupils at some of Västra Götaland's upper secondary special schools taking responsibility for material for scripts and performances. Their works are all about encounters – between lovers, between friends, between people who do not understand one another.
The adolescents will also contribute on stage together with singers and musicians from The Göteborg Opera.
The productions created through By the Young for the Young are about young people's thoughts here and now – depicted using their own descriptions. With the support of The Göteborg Opera artistic staff, these important thoughts are transformed into art. The process of transforming words and emotions into musical theatre is at least as great and enriching an experience for the participants as the actual performances.
