Opera. For the first time baroque opera will be staged at The Göteborg Opera. With Händel’s probably most famous opera from 1724, the whole treasure chest of baroque magic spills onto our main stage.
Opera in three acts by GEORG FRIEDRICH HÄNDEL (1685–1759). Libretto by Nicola Francesco Haym after G.F. Bussani
The director David Radok and stage designer Ivan Theimer have captured so much of this magic – the oriental, the ancient, and the human aspects – in a production that fills all of the stage.
Musically, the baroque expert, Laurence Cummings, has combined the modern instruments of the orchestra with instruments true to the time, like theorbos, lutes and cembali. The internationally acclaimed countertenors, William Towers and Yaniv d’Or, perform in the roles of Caesar and Tolomeo. Cleopatra’s part will be performed by the new rising star Ida Falk Winland.
