Last night I dreamed
Something magical’s going on at The Göteborg Opera. For those of us who work in the world of theatre and opera, it’s perfectly ordinary for people to fly, animals to sing and trains to dance. But this is quite extraordinary.
In February, we embarked on a new project as part of our collaboration with the Swedish Red Cross. The aim was to collect folk songs from people who live here in Göteborg and come from all over the world. Next, we’d create a new international choir that would sing a selection of songs from different countries. Soon, at the end of May, it’ll be time to reveal what happened in two concerts with the title Last night I dreamed.
Our new international choir consists of 12 singers from The Göteborg Opera and 35 people from Göteborg who love to sing. The choir members are aged between 18 and 72. We all live in Göteborg but come from 20 different countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and South America. Some people have lived in Göteborg their entire lives, while others arrived here 3 months ago.
After we’d been out finding songs, we ordered new arrangements of eight of them, which will be performed on 31 May. In addition, we’ll perform a brand new song cycle based on the Göteborgs-Posten’s campaign "Lyft Göteborg". The text is by Mia Ringblom Hjertner, after contributions made by the people of Göteborg to the campaign; music by Per Larsson. The choir is led by Ida Rosén Hamrå.
Free admission. Limited number of seats available, a maximum of 2 tickets per person.
