Musical. Newly composed musical about an enterprising hairdresser from Malmö.

In the 1970s, a hairdresser from Malmö thoroughly took in South Swedish society by putting herself forward as Carmencita Rockefeller – diplomat, cancer research scientist, member of the famous American oil and banking dynasty, and grandchild of the Japanese emperor. The deceit was staged with the help of her spouse who posed as her brother and said he was a CIA agent.
The libretto for this musical based on this true history have been written by the director, dramatist and actor Rikard Bergqvist, known to The Göteborg Opera audience through his musical dramas Zvea, Kråksång and Grymt!. For us, he has also directed the musicals My Fair Lady, The Rocky Horror Show and The Last Five Years as well as Mozart's opera The Magic Flute.
Carmencita Rockefeller is being staged as a collaborative production with Malmö Opera and Helsingborg City Theatre, where it had its first performance in spring 2013. In Skåne too, the title role was played by Anna-Maria Hallgarn, who made a special appearance here in the musicals Grymt! and Guys and Dolls.
