It gives us great pleasure to welcome Folke Abenius back to the Göteborg Opera after his success with Die Walküre. Now he takes on Boris Godunov, one of the few great masterpieces in the opera literature that he has yet to stage. Conductor Alexander Polyanichko, who was responsible for last years Pique Dame, guarantees that Musorgsky's powerful music will resound in its full splendour.
Boris Godunov has to date never been staged in Gothenburg.

Musorgsky's opera is based on Pushkin's novel and tells the tale of power plays, intrigues, war and misery. Cry, Russia, cry! Boris Godunov is one of the central works of the opera literature. Here you can find tough challenges, not least for the chorus, which has a more prominent role than in many other operas.
