Meryl Tankard, a well established choreographer, was once a dancer in the Pina Bausch dance company and choreographed both the inauguration ceremony at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and now recently “Tarzan the Musical” on Broadway in New York. Meryl Tankard’s suggestive ”Bolero” was performed recently at the Göteborg Opera and now she returns to choreograph the full-length evening performance of the ballet “Aurora”. ”Aurora” is based on the classic story of “The Sleeping Beauty”: the Princess, the Wicked Fairy, the sleep of 100 years, the Prince and the kiss. But Meryl is not content just to tell a conventional story in a conventional way. In “Aurora” we follow the transformation of a modern and independent princess from young girl to grown woman. The choreography is an original, amusing – and, certainly for some, provocative – mix of ballet, theatre, tap-dancing fairies and circus acrobatics. This is an experience not to be missed! ”Aurora” was a much-loved ballet when staged earlier, not least because the performance suits all ages with its blend of humour and depth. Now it’s time for the Swedish premiere of “Aurora” - you must see it! Recorded music of Peter Tchaikovsky, Robert Moran, John Lurie and Tuuva People, Marin Marais and the Guo Brothers.
